SPACE—SHIP EARTH
SPACESHIP EARTH SCULPTURES
I have built these large scale sculptures for nearly 15 years from recycled woods and other materials for private collections and institutions. They have been on display in Chicago, Cleveland, Joshua Tree, Los Angeles, NYC, San Francisco & San Jose.
I approach this work similarly to my paintings, where I focus on texture, color, form, and materials, however, my approach differs in that have to find a balance for how they live in the spaces in which they are constructed.
I’ve adopted the name as a reference to Epcot Center since so many have noticed an abstract likeness.
Cleveland
Materials & construction
Repurposed materials are heavily used in my work and these sculptures are primarily built from found wood or commercial construction waste. They have been built of a mix of: fencing, pine, poplar, OSB, pegboard, plywood, moulding, rope, textiles, gap filler and furniture scraps.
They are always built on location so I can get a sense of the space and how the piece will live within the environment.
PRESS
My sculptures have been featured in a few books: Milk & Honey: Contemporary Art in California curated and authored by Justin Van Hoy for Ammo Press, Art Sells: Installation Design for Retail Spaces published by Sendpoints Publishing, and Brand Spaces published by Gestalten Press.
