In 2016, I initiated the development of proprietary typefaces for YouTube. You can read my article about the creation process on Google Design.

YouTube Sans is a proprietary display typeface used throughout YouTube's products and marketing. Its design reflects the diverse communities on the platform—surprising, imperfect, and humanistic.

The typeface's distinctive personality is achieved through alternate glyphs, stylistic sets, and its rounded, monospace, and italic variations.

It's also a variable font, featuring built-in grades for light and dark themes, and supports 25 Arabic languages, 90 Cyrillic, Devanagari, Hebrew, Japanese, Korean, 219 Latin, Tamil, and Thai.

YouTube Sans has won multiple TDC awards in typographical excellence including awards for our Arabic, Devanagari, Korean & Tamil versions.
